Day 2 Edinburgh Sunday 5th January 2014:
I started my 2nd day in Edinburgh by making my way down to the hotel’s breakfast bar and having a lovely Scottish breakfast at 8:30 am which was so delicious!
After breakfast I to went reception and asked the helpful front desk staff the best way to visit Edinburgh’s Old Town and The Royal Mile which I wanted to explore today.
I decided to walk to Edinburgh’s Old Town and The Royal Mile at 10 am as it was only a 10 minute walk from my hotel.
As I walked towards The Royal Mile through the cobblestone streets of Edinburgh, I saw how historic the city Edinburgh is with the amazing architecture and attractions that line the streets.
As i walked towards the Royal Mile I discovered The Whiski Shop.
The Whiski Shop was such a interesting shop which stocked a huge selection of Scottish Whiskeys, whiskey blends and Scottish gin varieties,as well as the opportunity to sample some Scottish whiskey in the adjoining Whisky Rooms Bar.
After visiting the Whiski Shop I continued walking before arriving in Edinburgh’s Old Town, which is where most tourists visit as it is a bustling area of centuries old buildings and narrow alleys and has views of Edinburgh Castle.

As i made my way through Edinburgh Old Town, I decided to find a nice place to have a snack and found a cute Cafe called La Barantine.
This was such a cute little cafe with so many amazing french treats including eclairs, croissants and macaroons to name a few.
I ordered a croissant and a hot chocolate to warm up after walking through the cold winter Edinburgh weather.
After enjoying a great snack I walked along the Royal Mile and found the Museum of Edinburgh which I decided to explore.
I spent the next 2 hours exploring the museum’s maze of 16th century buildings and learning about Edinburgh’s origin, history, legends and fascinating facts.
At 1pm after exploring the Museum of Edinburgh I walked along the Royal Mile and found a restaurant for lunch called Burgers and Beers Grillhouse.
I made my way inside and found a table, before being served and ordering a Edinburgh Gin Fizz cocktail to drink and a Frying Scotsman Burger, which consisted of a Aberdeen Angus Beef Patty, haggis fritter, onion rings, scottish cheddar cheese and creamy pepper sauce which was so delicious one of the best burgers I have ever had!
After such an amazing lunch I continued to explore the Royal Mile and discovered The Writers Museum.
The Writers Museum celebrates the lives of three giants of Scottish Literature: Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson.
I spent the next 2 hours exploring the collection of Scottish Literature including: rare books, portraits, and personal objects which included Burn’s writing desk, the printing press which Scott’s novels were first produced on and the ring given to Robert Louis Stevenson by a Samoan chief.
This was such an interesting museum to visit and learn all about Scottish Literature.
After such a great day of exploring Edinburgh’s Old Town and Royal Mile I walked back to my hotel at 4:30 pm.
When I arrived back at my hotel I spent some time relaxing, before getting changed and heading down to the hotel’s restaurant Scotts on Princes Street for dinner at 6 pm.
I made my way inside and found a table before ordering a Whisky Sour Cocktail to drink, cullen skink: a thick scottish soup made with smoked haddock, potatoes and onions for entree and haggis for main meal as I had never tried Haggis before and thought I should as I was in Scotland!
After such a great Scottish meal in the hotel’s restaurant I made my way up to my hotel room and spent some time relaxing before heading to sleep to be rested after such a long day of exploring Edinburgh!
Safe Travels!
