Contiki Boot Scoots and Blues Day 2 :

Thursday 13th July 2023 Austin:

Day Sheet for Austin:

This morning after a great night of experiencing Austin nightlife, we met up at the coach at 8:15 and made our way towards downtown Austin.

I decided to have a free day in Austin and visit some museums that I was interested in.

The rest of the group had an optional excursion to go kayaking along Lady Bird Lake.

Once I got dropped off in downtown Austin I walked along Southern Congress Avenue.

After exploring South Congress Avenue I ordered an Uber and made my way towards my first experience for today The Texas State Capitol Building:

As I made my way to the entrance I took some photos of the building and the gardens which also had a memorial to Texan African American History.

As I approached the entrance there was a security screening before entering inside which I passed and made my way inside the State Capitol Building.

This was such an interesting building to visit with lots of history!

After exploring the State Capitol Building I took a short walk and arrived at the next experience in Austin which was the Bullock State History Museum.

This museum has a huge star figure out the front of the entrance which looked so great as you walk under!

I pre purchased tickets online earlier this morning which cost $15.

I showed my ticket at the reception desk and made my way inside.

The first floor featured exhibits showcasing Becoming Texas, an in depth look back Texas’s earliest history which was really interesting!

The second floor featured exhibits from the Civil War as well as exhibits celebrating its 100th year anniversary of independence from Mexico in 1936.

The third floor featured exhibits from the 20th Century including an AT-6 World War II training aircraft produced in Dallas.

The fourth floor featured exhibits focusing on Texas’s role in scientific discoveries as well as space exploration!

I spent 3 hours exploring this wonderful museum, it has so much history about Texas and defintely recommend when visiting Austin!

Once I had finished exploring the Bullock State History Musuem I made my way outside and ordered an Uber to my next stop of the day the Greeting From Austin art mural something I had seen on social media and wanted to get a photo of.

As I arrived I was amazed how huge the mural was and how amazing it looked!

I managed to get some great photos and decided to look for somewhere nearby to have lunch at.

As I walked along the street I found this lovely restaraunt called Picnik Texas.

I made my way inside and the server found me a great table inside.

I placed my order of a grassfed burger and margarita and relxed in the great vibe of this restaurant.

This was such a lovely restaurant and after a delicous lunch I made my way outside at 3:30pm and ordered an uber back to the hotel to have a bit of a relax after a long day of exploring Austin.

At 7pm we all met in the lobby of the hotel and made our way onto the coach,

Tonights activity was a Two Step Lesson and Drinks at a famous bar in Austin called White Horse.

This was such a fun activity to experience while in Austin to socialise with new people and learn something new!

This bar had a really amazing dive bar feel with a dance floor for two stepping which was so much fun!

At 9pm a group of us decided to go exploring and found another great bar close by called Austin Garden and Studio.

Austin Garden and Studio was such a lovely place it had an outdoor area with tables and shade.

It had 2 great bars including one with frozen cocktails perfect for hot summer texas nights!

Also located here was a food truck selling burgers and mexican food which was perfect for a late night snack!

Our group had some amazing cocktails here and enjoyed the great live music playing!

At 11pm our group organised an uber back to the hotel after such an incredible night of cocktails, food and live music in Austin.

Austin you have been such an incredible city I cant wait to return in the future!

Safe Travels

  1. What an awesome day in Austin, Campbell! Your detailed breakdown of each stop really brings the city to life. I love how you mixed exploring history at the Texas State Capitol and Bullock Museum with fun nightlife at White Horse and Austin Garden and Studio. Your lunch at Picnik Texas sounds delicious, too! Thanks for sharing your journey—can’t wait to check out these spots when I’m in town!
